Our users love the base level NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 ti laptop, because it’s an affordable and reliable option for playing virtual reality experiences and games. Our partners use these good gaming laptops for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive events, and they play great. The best, cheap gaming laptop you’ll find. While the gtx 1050 ti laptop isn’t top of the line (Intel i5 CPU and 8GB Ram), it gets the job done. For most experiences and needs (especially for consumers), this is the only laptop you should consider.
If you want to project the virtual reality action to a TV or projector, you will need to rent the VR Ready 1060 Laptop w/Video Out. The Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset require a dedicated HDMI, and most laptops are not built to output to a second display (ie a TV or projector). This was one of the only laptops that our partners found that would allow the user to connect a virtual reality headset and output the video to another display without paying more than $2,000.
GTX 1050 vs 1050 ti: The nvidia 1050 is NOT VR compatible. The Oculus vr software won’t run. You need to opt for the nvidia 1050 ti if these are your only options.
GTX 1060 vs 1050 ti: Some specific VR experiences require the VR Ready 1060 Laptop while others require a 1080 GPU. Please send us a message if you’re interested in renting a 1080 GPU laptop.
Our partners’ gaming laptop rental come with a power cable and are preloaded with the games and experiencds that you request. If you run into any issues during your rental, they’re available to help you troubleshoot.
Note: When you receive the laptop, the wifi may be disabled. The necessary updates for both the laptop and the VR operating system (Oculus or Steam) will be downloaded and installed, so you’ll be able to play any experience that doesn’t require internet (which includes nearly every experience we preload). If you decide to connect to the internet, it’s possible that you will need to perform an update to the computer since we can not control GeForce (graphics card), Oculus, or Steam software updates and they are not announced prior to the date they are pushed. If you run into any issues, just let us know and we’ll help you troubleshoot.
